Oasis Beach Pool - Bedford

A large fun pool built in 1990, consisting of a main and learner pool with flumes, spa’s and wave machine.

The pool has a ventilation rate of 17m,3/s and was completed with a heat pump and heat recovery system. One of the compressors needed to be replaced at an estimated £20,000.

ESG were asked to look at the existing ventilation system to see if a more economical system could be installed, both in terms of running and maintenance costs.

A system incorporating a gas fired dehumidifier was proposed to replace both the heat pump and recovery system.

It was calculated based on information from Bedford Borough Council that by reducing the operating costs, the expected savings would be about £20,000 per annum. This would give an expected payback, taking into account that money had to be spent on replacing the heat pump compressor, within 3 years.

ESG removed the heat pump and heat recovery system, installed the gas fired dehumidifier and improved the poolside air distribution by installing 8 new low level extract grilles around the pool.

The new ESG system was commissioned in March 2002.
